As I update my “books read in 2024” list, whenever I read the Comic Book of the week, I don’t add it as its own entry, but rather just add the series as a whole, and I update the numbers. So there’s 1 entry for Transformers (6 issues), 1 for Void Rivals (7 issues), and 1 each for Duke and Cobra Commander (3 apiece).
I’m doing the same thing for The Vinland Saga, which are manga collections totaling around 400 pages each. Yes that’s a lot of pages, but you can read one of these in like, an hour. I’ve read nine print books this year, but with that qualification.
All that said, Vinland 2 was a great follow-up to the first volume, and I’m excited that there’s more. Small wonder that manga is flogging American comics. These are all so good.
I also finished JOSEPH SMITH FOR PRESIDENT by Spencer McBride. Video incoming. This is a best-of-year book.
Butcher kind of returns to form with this Dresden Files novella, THE LAW. It doesn’t actually have Harry Dresden being a lawyer, he’s just helping someone with a legal issue that overlaps with the Winter Court. All things considered, I enjoyed it more than the two books from 2020.
Oh, and I re-read the final Narnia book, narrated by Patrick Stewart. Superb stuff.
This week I have ABBOTT IN DARKNESS (Butler) and GEORGE LUCAS (Jones). Most likely I will read TransDimensional Hunter book 2 as well. The next few weeks look good, and in May I will most likely tackle SHOGUN, but not because of the TV series. (I’m not watching it, I don’t have Hulu nor will I.)
